Live Aqua Cancun All Inclusive
"Lovely Place, but..."
We have stayed at the Live Aqua 2 other times. We stayed this year in April 2016. The disappointment was that at check-in, we were sent to the a person who started talking about Timeshare. We have been to Cancun several times and have never had the hotel personnel direct us to the Timeshare people. We did not like this at all!!!
"Greatest Resort in Cancun!"
Let me first start my review with the greatest thing about this resort and that definitely has to be the staff. I know most people reading this review want the pros and cons but the second half is dedicated to those that truly made our trip special. This resort is incredible! It has an amazing view, great rooms, its adult-only (huge plus!), and although its more of a honeymoon/couples resort you can still have lots of fun if you're single. I felt that it was very well priced and the value is worth even more than what you pay. Even though its all-inclusive, make sure to bring extra funds so that you can tip those that give you exceptional service. Tips are greatly appreciated at the resort! Pros: -Adult-Only (No kids running around ruining your good time. Didn't realize how much I would enjoy this perk until I got there. Definitely makes a difference) -Amazing view, right on the beach (Can't speak for the garden-view rooms, but the ocean-view was well worth it) -All-Inclusive (Food and Drinks are amazing, even more so when they're included) -5-6 Restaurants, Infinity Pool, Two long pools, Cabanas, Swing Bar, Swim-up Bar. -Massage/Spa Services (Recommend getting the Swedish Massage which includes the spa services prior to the massage. Dry Sauna, Cold Dip, Steam Room, Warm Jacuzzi right before your massage to get you in the zone.) -Egos Night Club (Great bartenders, great music, great place to cut loose) -Gym Facility (Not that I used this, but it is available if you wanna get a workout in. Impressive facility for being on a resort) -24-Hour Room Service (For those late nights, I used this a couple times haha) -Planned Events on the resort (They had a casino night, baby sea turtle release, volleyball, yoga, etc. There was always something going on somewhere on the resort. Check the activities sheet when you arrive, we missed a lot by not looking at it.) -Scented Oils in room and throughout the inside of the resort -Rooms (Upgraded twice and all the rooms were nice) -Suite is worth it! (Daily cabana and foot massage, the extra space, balcony, access to the 5th floor lounge, the shower/tub with jets was really nice in the suite.) -The staff is second to none. -Just an all-around amazing resort. Cons: -Honestly none! -The one exception is that it is somewhat of a couple's resort so keep that in mind if you're single. During our stay we were so well taken care of by so many amazing people that before I left I had to get all of their names. These were the individuals that gave us outstanding service and made our vacation unforgettable: -Daniel (Morning, 5th floor lounge)/ Hugo (Night, 5th floor lounge) - Both of these guys work the 5th floor lounge and whether we wanted mimosas in the morning or tequila shots at night these guys took care of us. The lounge is a neat little area which offers unique delicious appetizers and a fully stocked bar perfect for grabbing a drink before you head out to the pool in the afternoon or before a nice dinner at one of the 5 restaurants. -Jaime (Tall with glasses) - I swear I saw Jaime everywhere, this guy was always behind the scenes making things happen everywhere. I didn't get to talk with him that much but I knew he was always looking out for us and did drop by every once in a while to check on us. -Carmen & Vienna (Spa Specialists) - After upgrading our room to the Suite we were provided with a cabana and foot massages. These two were incredible when it comes to the foot massages. I have never enjoyed the luxury of foot massages before, but after man was I in heaven. They spoiled me and after the massages my feet were so tingly I could barely walk (that's a good thing!). -Erick (Cabana Server) - Erick was the man! This guy was on top of everything. He may have been one of the hardest working guys out there. If we needed anything at all he was on it and fast too. If we ever had a request he did everything in his power to make it happen. He's one of the reasons our upgrade to the suite/cabana was so worth it. He would smile and laugh with us which made us feel so welcome at Live Aqua. -Enrique, Jaime May, & Ivonova (Egos Bar/Lounge) - These three made our nightlife unlike any other. We came into Egos every night we were there because they were taking care of us and we didn't feel the need to go anywhere else. Whether it was the cool flaming shots or trying something new in Mescal, these guys were our nightlife heroes. We spent a lot of time talking and getting to know all of them, they are all amazing people. On our last day Ivonova even made us a heartwarming farewell surprise, which was a tray with all of our names, a sweet message, and a few flaming shots which were reminiscent of birthday candles. Even thinking about it now I'm a little sad that I have to wait a whole year to see these guys again. -Somara (Morning, 5th floor receptionist)/ Fernanda (Night, 5th floor receptionist) - These were two of the sweetest girls on the resort. They helped us with our room upgrades and were always smiling and willing to help with any issues we had during our stay. After we upgraded our room we forgot that we had left our dress clothes in the previous room and Fernanda even offered to personally go get them for us. Both of them were happy to help with anything. -Alexis (Swing Bar) - This guy was a riot, he always had us laughing and made some pretty amazing drinks. We began and ended our quest to find the best tequila on the resort at the swing bar. His expertise helped us narrow it down and made us feel super welcome at the resort. The swing bar was easily one of my favorite places to visit and a lot of that has to do with Alexis. -Sergio (Azur Restaurant, Server) - The reason I mention this guy was because he was genuinely happy to serve us and one of the most down to Earth people I've met. We came into Azur a few nights prior and had a delicious meal which we were hoping to redo on the night we met Sergio. Unfortunately, Azur rotates its menu a couple times throughout the week so the night we went in there those menu items were unavailable. Thanks to Sergio he managed to find a way to get us those delicious items which we greatly desired and made us feel super comfortable during our dinner. P.S. if you can get it, try the Habanero Soup in the bread bowl...to die for! -Valerie (PR Representative) - Last but definitely not least I would like to thank Valerie for making this vacation unlike anything else. Valerie is the one who makes this all happen. She is constantly walking around the resort asking people how they are enjoying their time and fixing any little issue that arises during your stay. You can tell from the way she presents herself that she loves her job and is amazing at it. Thank you all for providing us with the vacation of a lifetime. So often the people that make everything happen and make your trip unforgettable don't get recognized or get the credit that they deserve. There are so many other people who made our trip amazing but these were the people that really went above and beyond. I will be coming back to this resort a bunch in the future and recommending it to anyone who is looking for a nice resort in Cancun.
"Beautiful hotel but not so great food! "
I just finished a weeks vacation at Live Aqua and wanted to give feed back and input to others looking to book this hotel. Me and boyfriend went for our first vacation together and did just about everything the hotel offered. The hotel was super clean and beautiful. I will cover just about everything in this review. Check-In: Check-in didn't go extremely well for us. When we got to the hotel we actually upgraded our room hoping to get in before the 3:00 check in time. We arrived around 1:00 and they said our room should be ready in an hour. When we checked back they told us another 1/2 hour. Our room wasn't ready until a little after 3:00 and when we went up to our room the door was wide open which I found a bit odd. Room: We got an ocean view room on the 6th floor which was actually gorgeous. The view of the beach was breath taking and the room itself was very clean and nice inside. The bathroom was very modern and well decorated and the bed was pretty comfy as well. I loved that every hotel room has its own balcony. It was sitting on the balcony at night and in the morning. They also had a few decent Chanel's in English including movie channels. The room service did a great job cleaning each day as well! Food: Food was probably my biggest complaint for this hotel. I heard mixed reviews from people about each place. My boyfriend and I are foodies and are used to more upscale dining and quality food and this hotel just didn't cut it for us. He honestly said it was one of his worst experiences with hotel food. The Italian restaurant, Vienna I believe it was called, was probably the best out of all of them. They have good picky food for lunch and dinner they had a good spicy pasta dish, bolognese pasta, and lasagna. They also had a really good spinach and artichoke appetizer. The mediterranean restaurant had a decent lunch as well. Although it was nothing spectacular I would suggest to try it at least once for lunch. Although there is a iguana who lives near the outside patio deck that bothered a few customers during our stay there. At one point the iguana actually climbed on a couples table and started eating their food. It took almost 3 minutes to get him off the table! MB was probably our biggest disappointment. This is the one place that requires a dress code for dinner and in my opinion the food was terrible. I did try the habanero soup that was highly suggested by everyone which I loved but everything else was pretty bad. My boyfriend and I both got the filet and it was honestly so bad that we both got up and left and went to a different restaurant off the resort. We were highly disappointed with this restaurant. For breakfast Siete is the place to go. I will have to say we both loved the breakfast every day we were there. They have a smoothie station where you can get fresh smoothies of your choice every day. The guy who works the smoothie station is honestly the most cheerful person I've ever seen! They also had an amazing omelet station with plenty of sauces and toppings to choose from. They will cook eggs any way you want them with whatever ingredients you want and they do it extremely fast as well. The dinner at siete wasn't very impressive but definitely go there for breakfast every morning and you won't be disappointed. When they used the name "Hidden Garden" they weren't kidding! It took me and my boyfriend like 10 minutes to find the restaurant. The appetizers here were also just okay. We got a Pad Tai and a Beef appetizer that neither one of us was too impressed with. For dinner he got a beef entree that he hated and I got the orange chicken that was also just average. The drinks were decent and the restaurant itself was BEAUTIFUL. Room service: Room service is 24 hours and wasn't too bad. We got everything from quesadillas, to burgers and fries, to desserts. You can order basically anything on the menu even if it's considered breakfast or dinner at any time and the turn around time is extremely fast. None of the food was super flavorful but if you are looking for something fast the food isn't terrible for room service. Spa: Me and my boyfriend did a couples Swedish massage at the hotel that was to die for. They tell you to arrive an hour early for your massage, which I'm glad that we did. They have someone bring you around to all the different stations before your massage including a sauna, steam room, hot tub, foot bath, showers, and a nice waiting room where you could sit with your significant other in your bathrobe with a hot compress around your neck a few minutes prior to your massage. The atmosphere was amazing and the massage itself was incredible. For 2 people for a 50 minute massage each and the full hour prior of using the spa facilities it was only $150 per couple. I believe it was well worth it and one of my favorite parts of the trip! The beach and Pools: This beach was one of the most beautiful beaches I had ever seen. My boyfriend and I thought all the people utilizing the pools were crazy because the beach was absolutely flawless. They clean the beach amazingly and you will barely see one speck of sea weed your whole trip. The waves were awesome as well. There can be a bit of a strong current some days but there are life guards on duty and nothing a good swimmer couldn't handle. There were big waves probably 2 out of the 7 days that we were there. The pools and hot tubs were nice as well and they stay open all night. I saw people in the hot tub at 4:30 in the morning one night. The service at the pools and on the beach is great as well. People are constantly bringing you drinks. Drink recommendations: scooby doo shot, rainbow shots, blue Hawaiian, and Miami vice! Gym: The gym is pretty busy in the morning but is the best hotel gym I have seen. There were plenty of machines and weights for everyone to use. There were fresh folded towels at each cardio machine (treadmill, elliptical, etc.) and water stations as well. Gift shop: The gift shop had some reasonably priced jewelry and souvenirs but WHATEVER YOU DO DONT FORGET SUNSCREEN AND BUY IT THERE!!! I paid $26.00 for one sunscreen at the gift shop. It was insane! The cafe and Starbucks is also located inside the gift shop. Hidden Fees: One thing my boyfriend and I weren't particularly happy about where the little hidden fees and services that cost money. If you are a wine drinker and expecting this to be all inclusive, think again. You had to pay for wine at every location which I wasn't thrilled about going to an all inclusive. Starbucks also wasn't included in the package. They also had two dinner options that were also not included that we did not bother to try seeing as we weren't impressed with the food anyways. Excursions: Swimming with dolphins was my favorite excursions by far. We had to only walk across the street to the aquarium and had the most amazing experience of our lives. It was pretty inexpensive. $139 each and we got to have 45 minutes in the water with the dolphin. It pushed us by our feet across the pool, jumped over us, kissed and danced with us. It was amazing. My boyfriend did the flyboard at aquaworld which was also up the street. We took the bus which was super convenient. It was a dollar per person for the bus ride and they got us there in 5 minutes. It was $120 for a half hour I believe. It was one of the best rates that we got for this activity. Although my boyfriend loved it, it was very difficult to do and he did hit his head pretty hard on the water with one of his falls. Be mindful that as fun as it looks you will get a little beat up. We also did the jungle tour speed boards at Aqua Marina I believe it was called. This was also a short bus ride up the road and one of our favorite excursions. I believe this was also around $100 per person but we got about a 2 hour boat ride and got to snorkel for 50 minutes and see some of the underwater museum. Another one of our favorite excursions. We also did scuba diving. I'm unsure of which place We dove with but it was about 45 minutes each way. If you are going to do scuba. I suggest finding a place closer because it literally took up our entire day. It was amazing but just a long day. They offer jet skis at the hotel where they provide you with your pool towels. You have to walk ten minutes down the beach but it is worth it. The jet skis are super fast and a lot of fun. It was $68.00 for both of us to go on one jet ski for a half hour. Close attractions: If you want an amazing meal, Ruth Chris was only a 5 minute was from the hotel. My boyfriend and I ate here twice. We booked it through the concierge who provided us with a dessert voucher for a free dessert. The food, wine and service were all amazing! The mall across the street also had lots of shopping and food attractions. We ate dinner there 3 nights as well. The designer stores were more expensive there than back home. Only go there for touristy souvenirs because you will pay top dollar for anything designer. Tipping: I did tip at every meal. I gave $3 for breakfast, $5 for lunch and $10 for dinner. I also tipped $1-2 for every drink I got. It's not expected but greatly appreciated for sure. Transportation: Book transportation through the hotel or a travel website. The cabs were majorly ripping people off at the airport who didn't speak Spanish charging them between $50 to $75 dollars for a trip that should normally be $20 or less. Don't fall for this traps. We booked a shuttle through Expedia we were happy with. Also if you are going anywhere local. Take the bus!!! There are about 6-10 buses that will pass you at each given minute (no joke! We timed it and counted!) Its extremely cheap and they drive super fast. I think that's about it. Hopefully my review was helpful!
"We will keep coming back"
This was our second visit to Live Aqua. Everything there is great. Rooms - We opted for an ocean view that put us on the 7th floor. It was great waking up to look out an see the ocean every morning. The rooms are nice and we can't say anything bad about them. I do wish that they had a pillow menu like some other hotels we've stayed at in Cancun. Beach - The beach access at Live Aqua is great. We've stayed at other hotels in Cancun where their beach has been rocky. The beach at Live Aqua has great sand, not rocky, and they keep it clean. In addition they planted palm trees that should start providing some good shade in the coming years. Service - Everyone at the hotel is great. From the hosts at the restaurant, to the waiters, and maintenance. You always get a smile and "Hi". Food - We ate at Azur, Siete, Hidden Garden, Varena, and the breakfast buffet while we were there. All the food we had was great. It was a consistent experience going from restaurant to restaurant. Spa - This time we decided to enjoy the spa. It was great. I loved the facilities before the massage. I got to use the the sauna, wet sauna, cold pool, and whirlpool before getting massaged.
Live Aqua lived up to all of our expectations. The service is fantastic, the best we have ever experienced at any destination. The beach and grounds are absolutely stunning. The food is hit or miss, but I somewhat expect that at an all inclusive. The breakfast was consistent and lunch in our cabana was great. Dinners were okay and I think that could be in part due to cultural differences in food preparation. The drinks are watered down unless it's a tequila drink, beer, or wine. Again, I somewhat expect that at an all inclusive. The rooms are very nice. We upgraded to a suite and it was obviously two adjoining rooms that the bedroom furniture was removed from one and replaced with living room furniture. That made it a little awkward, but having two bathrooms was nice. The sofa in the sitting area was not comfortable at all, so some seating upgrades would be nice. Glad we upgraded though because having the cabana and foot massage daily was heavenly. The only other critique I could give is in some of the common areas downstairs you can detect a slight sewage smell wafting around. That could be a permanent thing or it could have been due to some kind of problem that was going on just at the time we were there. Not a deal breaker, but it was noticed. Overall, we loved our LA stay and would return and suggest to others. It is pampering at its finest. :)
